Missions
First Baptist Church of Whiteville has been serving our neighbors, community and the world with open hearts and open doors for over 180 years. Our congregation is a missionary and evangelical-minded people who invite persons to receive and follow Christ, engage in educational, social and health ministries and provide prayer and financial support to maintain a worldwide mission outreach. Our church continues to contribute 10% of our operating budget to missions with contributions to Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. We are proud to have had five former pastors who have served as missionaries to foreign countries.
God gives each of us gifts and talents and there are a variety of ways to use these in mission efforts at FBC. Review some of our church’s opportunities listed below:
- Disaster relief as necessary
- Wheelchair ramps and construction for local people in need through our Baptist Men’s Group
- Operation Inasmuch – a one-day mission blitz where teams of all ages are touching people’s lives and sharing the love of Jesus Christ through hands-on mission projects
- Harvest Table Food Bank – we regularly collect canned goods to stock a local food pantry to assist individuals in their time of need
- Hospice – church members volunteer to prepare meals for families who have loved ones at the Angel House, our local hospice facility
- Backpack Ministry – a program that provides chronically hungry children with food to take home over the weekends by filling backpacks with nutritious, child-friendly, and easy-to-prepare food
- Baptist Men, WMU, Children and Youth group activities include ongoing projects to teach, pray, give and participate in missions
- Families First – a non-profit organization that works with domestic violence and sexual assault cases in Columbus County
- Benevolence Needs – assistance to individuals in the community as requested through our church office
